The UNMC Faculty Development Innovation & Momentum Grant funds professional development activities to enhance the skills you need to be an impactful teacher and leader in a future-focused health science organization.
Using a "train-the-trainer" model, this funding is intended to expand targeted expertise in elements that are the core of UNMC's mission and advance the faculty community as a whole.
Up to $1,500 of funding is available to faculty who are invested in developing others in outreach throughout the organization. It supports visionary faculty who are motivated by possibilities, and aids selected faculty in disseminating knowledge, innovation, and momentum throughout UNMC. Awardees will design and develop high-impact workshops, online training, or other faculty development learning materials that are aimed at improving and supporting the talent of the organization.

This train-the-trainer program is a strategic investment in growing talent, both for the individual who receives the grant in order to enhance and disseminate their own knowledge and for the UNMC faculty community as a whole, the beneficiary of the individual’s outreach.
Faculty Development Program Innovation and Momentum Grants fund training activities that may include seminars, workshops, or online learning. Funding can be used for a broad spectrum of development needs including leadership, communication, teaching, assessment, technology, as well as a host of other skills and competencies necessary to be a highly effective faculty member in academic health sciences.
Awardees are then expected to transfer the training toward advancing the skills and knowledge of members of the faculty community.
Currently, Faculty Development Innovation and Momentum grants are capped at $1,500. Awards make possible a greater diffusion of innovation, knowledge, and skills by investing in campus experts who can cascade advances throughout the organization.
Awardees are expected to transfer their advanced training toward improving the skills and knowledge of members of the faculty community. This is to be done through designing and developing a UNMC workshop, online training, or other innovative faculty development materials and activities that are aimed at improving and supporting the talent of the organization.
Awardees will be required to submit a brief report summarizing the impact of their awarded grant. Recipients are also expected to share their experience with UNMC and other interested stakeholder groups. This may include features in newsletters, annual reports, or other communications.
When you are ready to apply for the Faculty Development Program Innovation and Momentum Grant, simply complete the online application, which will take approximately one hour. The application is succinct, requiring no more than 3,000 words. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Grant applications should emphasize a systematic approach for transferring the grantee’s training toward advancing the skills and knowledge of members of the faculty community. Be sure to articulate a vision for advancing target audiences within the organization. Outcomes are focused on investing in and carefully cultivating talent.
Preference will be given to:
- faculty who envision a sustained impact for UNMC, and who can respond to interprofessional campus needs; and/or
- faculty who intend to research any component of their professional development activity will be given priority.
