Annual Events

UNMC FMIG hosts monthly meetings featuring a variety of speakers (physicians, residents, etc) and is open to UNMC students. The group also hosts annual events for students.

Family Medicine Residency Fair

There is a high level of interest in Family Medicine at UNMC. Each year, FMIG invites area residency programs to campus to share their programs with UNMC students. The goal is to expose the medical students of UNMC to the many excellent residency program opportunities available in the region.  The annual event is a great opportunity for both students and regional residency program.

Skills Night

Each year, two medical students are invited to FMIG Skills Night. The evening focuses on practicing skills for the objective structured clinical examination. Students practice sutures, injections, and IV insertion in the MSC Clinical Simulation Lab. Family Medicine faculty members are on hand to assist students.

Ready, Set, FIT

“Ready, Set, FIT” is a national outreach program designed to teach 3rd and 4th grade students the importance of being active, eating smart, and feeling good. The program is presented to local schools by UNMC medical students and includes lessons on emotional well-being, staying active, and eating healthy.

Tar Wars

Tar Wars” is a tobacco-free education program designed to educate 4th and 5th grade students about the harmful effects of tobacco use. UNMC students visit metro area schools to teach kids about the short-term health effects of tobacco use, the cost associated with using tobacco products, and the advertising techniques used by the tobacco industry to market their products to youth.
