Grand Island

High Tech and High Touch

This Family Medicine Residency Program truly gives you the best of both worlds. You train in excellent facilities fully equipped with today’s most advanced medical technology. Yet, you never lose touch with the family or the human side of health care.

These two components can both be found at Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, a licensed 217-bed regional referral center founded more than 100 years ago. Saint Francis Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and is designed a Rural Referral Center by the Federal Government. Saint Francis Medical Center provides health care to a primary and secondary service area of 120,000 people. Its mission is “to touch and to heal, providing health and wholeness to all those in need of our services.” Specialty services at Saint Francis Medical Center currently include:

A Skilled Nursing Unit, Home Health Care and the Alcoholism and Drug Treatment Center are additional components of the medical training available to you at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Family Practice of Grand Island (FPGI) serves as the resident ambulatory continuity clinic. FPGI was the first site for Rural Training Tracks (RTT) in the state, beginning in 1992 under the direction of Dr. Richard Fruehling.
