The Medical Center

Regional West Medical Center, a 182-bed regional referral center, is one of three Level II Trauma Centers in Nebraska. As the region's only tertiary referral medical center, Regional West provides comprehensive and innovative health care services for the people of western Nebraska and the neighboring states of Colorado, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

With nearly 300 providers and over 2,000 employees, Regional West offers care that spans some 40 medical specialties provided by more than 28 physicians clinics.

Regional West Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission and was named a 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for surgical care, perinatal care, and treatment of pneumonia. The Medical center is also the recipient of the 2015 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award.

As a key component in a regional emergency medical system, we support emergency helicopter ambulance service throughout the region. Regional West Medical Center is verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II Trauma Center. Our emergency department is the only one in the Nebraska panhandle staffed by board-certified physicians 24 hours a day.

Intensive care services range from a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to an eight-bed Coronary Care unit affiliated with the University of Colorado Hospital. In partnership with HealthONE's Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Regional West offers the only stroke telemedicine program and the most advanced stroke care in the region.

Our Radiology department is second to none in the state of Nebraska. Staffed by an experienced group of board-certified radiologists and home to a two-year School of Radiologic Technology, the department provides the latest diagnostic imaging services including fixed-site Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computerized Axial Tomography, angiography, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. Our mammography program is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Regional West’s cancer services is the only cancer program in Nebraska, and one of a limited number of U.S. hospitals, to receive four consecutive Outstanding Achievement Awards from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Regional West is also a designated Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, making our medical center one of two Nebraska hospitals to be so recognized.

Our Acute Rehabilitation Unit and Stroke Care program are both certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. And our AACVPR certified cardiovascular rehabilitation program is recognized as a leader in the field of cardiovascular rehabilitation by offering the most advanced practices available.

Western Nebraska’s wide open spaces have compelled Regional West Medical Center to become a leader in rural healthcare initiatives. We maintain strong partnerships with health care providers and institutions within and outside Nebraska, so that we can bring specialized services directly to our patients.
