From 2017-2019, the ACE Internationalization Laboratory steering committee, created with the support of the American Council on Education (ACE), provided leadership for a systematic and collaborative approach to international activities at UNMC. Under the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Global and Student Support, Dr. Jane Meza, members of the steering committee and subcommittees worked to develop both a strategy for the comprehensive internationalization of the UNMC community and means to assess the campus’ achievements.
Spurred by the progress of the “ACE Lab,” Dr. Jane Meza was named inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement in 2018. The Office of Global Engagement was given a physical home in 2019 when three units across UNMC were subsumed under Dr. Meza and Director of Global Engagement Bruce Grogan’s leadership:
- Asia Pacific Rim and Development Program (APRDP)
- International Business (formerly UNeMed International)
- International Health and Medical Education (IHME)
At the conclusion of the ACE Internationalization Laboratory, the committee released the ACE Lab Executive Report summarizing two years of strategic planning and information gathering on UNMC’s international programs and activities. A permanent Internationalization Committee is under development to continue the Ace Lab’s work.
