Breaking Barriers

UNMC’s Graduate Studies department offers a variety of Professional Development workshops and seminars throughout the academic year.  The Breaking Barriers seminars allow international students to share information about their homeland with their fellow UNMC students, including addressing misconceptions and stereotypes.  The goal is to embrace diversity at UNMC and try to break down barriers between cultures and to develop a better understanding of the people you’re studying and working with.  It gives our student body a chance to grow and expand their thinking through a multicultural lens.  These events are co-organized by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the International Student Association (ISA).  The events provide an ethnic lunch to match the speaker’s culture.  Recent past speakers have talked about China, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Mali, Iran, and Colombia.  Learn more about GSA on their Facebook page and their blog and ISA.
