Visitor Protocol

Visitors here six calendar days or fewer (only visitor badge needed)

Sponsoring department requests the international visitor by providing the following visitor details:

  • Visitor’s full name
  • Start and end dates of UNMC visit
  • Purpose of visit
  • Name of sponsor and sponsoring department
  • Name of department contact individual
  • Required UNMC visitor registration form (short-stay)

The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) will issue the visitor badge to the sponsoring department prior to visitor arrival.

Sponsoring department returns visitor badge to OGE upon completion of the visit.

Visitors here seven working days or more

Sponsoring department registers the international visitor by providing the following visitor information:

  • Visitor’s full name
  • Start and end dates of UNMC visit
  • Visitor’s home country and home institution
  • Purpose of visit
  • Name of sponsor and sponsoring department
  • Visa type:
    • Visa waiver
    • B1/B2
    • J1 short term scholar
    • J1 research scholar
    • Other
  • Purpose of visit:
    • Observation only
    • Clinical experience
    • Research experience
    • Administrative
  • Verify the need for affiliate ID
  • Verify the need for medical malpractice liability insurance
  • Verify online training required:
    • Collaborative IRB Training Initiative
    • Comprehensive Health History Questionnaire
    • General Bio-safety
    • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
    • Micro-isolator Training
    • Occupational Health and Safety Animal Contact
    • Note: all visitors are required to complete HIPAA, HIPAA 2013 renewal, the bloodborne pathogen, cultural competence, and safety training, and the UNMC Statement of Understanding.
  • Required UNMC visitor registration form (seven or more days)

Sponsoring department provides the following documents to OGE prior to visitor’s arrival:

  • Copy of passport photo page
  • Curriculum Vitae

Upon completion of required training and receipt of immunization records, proof of insurance, and emergency contact information, the OGE will issue the approval for processing of the photo ID badge and network access. 

Note:   Network access is given after OGE submits a request to ITS and confirms that the visitor has completed all mandatory requirements and is now allowed to get access to UNMC resources.

PHOTO IDs ARE ISSUED ONLY BY THE OFFICE OF GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT
