American Association of University Women  

AAUW American Fellowships support women scholars who are completing dissertations, planning research leave from accredited institutions, or preparing research for publication. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of scholarly excellence; quality and originality of project design; and active commitment to helping women and girls through service in their communities, professions, or fields of research.

AAUW Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study at accredited U.S. institutions during the fellowship year in one of the designated degree programs where women’s participation traditionally has been low, such as STEM.

American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship  

The American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship encourages proposals from all basic science disciplines, bioengineering or biotechnology, public health, behavioral, epidemiological and community and clinical investigations broadly related to cardiovascular and stroke problems.

American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program  

The American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program is a federally funded training program for ethnic and racial minority researchers and service providers.

Association for Institutional Research  

Association for Institutional Research (AIR) offers a Fellowship Program in Institutional Research.

Autism Speaks  

Autism Speaks supports global biomedical research into the diagnosis, causes, prevention and treatment of autism. In addition to their research grants, they also offer the Weatherstone Predoctoral Fellowship and the Meixner Postdoctoral Fellowship in Translational Research.

Doctoral Degree Scholarships in Cancer Nursing  

Doctoral Degree Scholarships in Cancer Nursing from the American Cancer Society are awarded to graduate students pursuing doctoral study in the field of cancer nursing research, and preparing for careers as nurse scientists.

Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants for Biological Sciences  

The National Science Foundation awards Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in selected areas of the biological sciences. Proposals must fall within the scope of any of the clusters in the Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) or the Behavioral Systems Cluster in the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS). These grants provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research for improvement beyond the already existing project. Allowed are costs for doctoral candidates to participate in scientific meetings, to conduct research in specialized facilities or field settings, and to expand an existing body of dissertation research.

Environmental Protection Agency Fellowships  

The Environmental Protection Agency provides support for research fellowships and professional development opportunities to encourage students to obtain advanced degrees in the environmental sciences and pursue STEM-related careers.

Fannie & John Hertz Foundation  

Hertz Foundation Fellowships are for graduate work leading to the PhD in applied physical, biological and engineering sciences.

Ford Foundation Fellowship Program  

Ford Foundation Fellowship Program seeks to increase the diversity of the nation's college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program  

The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program is offered by the U.S. Department of Education. This program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral students who conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of six to 12 months.

Graduate Women in Science Fellowships  

The GWIS National Fellowships Program offers fellowships to help increase knowledge in the natural sciences and to encourage research careers in the sciences by women.

Grass Foundation  

The Grass Fellowship Program in neuroscience supports graduate students for study at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA for a summer research program.

Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation Dissertation Fellowships  

Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation Dissertation Fellowships provides support for research to understand and reduce violence, aggression and dominance.

Josephine de Karman Fellowship Trust  

The purpose of the Josephine de Karman Fellowship Trust is to recognize and assist students whose scholastic achievements reflect Professor Von Karman’s high standards.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships  

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships are awarded to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of Department of Defense interest.

National Institutes of Health  

The National Institutes of Health (NSRA) offers individual fellowship funding opportunities.

National Science Foundation Graduate Education Funding  

The National Science Foundation offers funding for outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

NASA Graduate Student Researchers Project  

The NASA Graduate Student Researchers Project awards fellowships for graduate study leading to master's or doctoral degrees, related to NASA research and development, in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship  

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.

NIHCM Foundation  

The National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) Foundation offers a variety of investigator-initiated research grants.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans Program  

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to the United States. Each year, we invest in the graduate education of 30 New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture or their academic field.

PhRMA Foundation Fellowships  

The PhRMA Foundation supports the research and early career endeavors of scientists in drug discovery and development. They offer fellowships for graduate students.

Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformations (SMART) Program  

The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at DoD laboratories.

Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research Program  

Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) program offers small grants under $1,000 to support research in any scientific area.
