Recent recipient of a University of Nebraska Presidential Graduate Fellowship, Duy Ha has been awarded an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship to fund his research on peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a condition caused by blockages of the arteries that provide blood flow to the arms and legs. None of the current therapies for PAD target the pathobiological disease processes at the skeletal muscle and microvascular levels.  Duy aims to identify novel therapeutic targets that he hopes will increase limb function and quality of life of PAD patients.  Former president of the UNMC Graduate Student Association and member of the Student Senate Executive Council, Duy is the co-founder and co-president of the UNMC Interprofessional Society and a member of the American Physician Scientist Association Policy Committee.  Duy is an MD/PhD Scholar, he completed his dissertation research under the supervision of Iraklis Pipinos, MD, Professor of Surgery and Courtesy Professor of Cellular & Integrative Physiology, receiving the PhD degree in August 2016.  Duy will subsequently complete the final two years of his medical school training at UNMC.
