The UNMC Training Program in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia Drug Discovery
The UNMC Training Program in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia Drug Discovery is a NIH funded T32 program (T32AG076407) administered jointly by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Department of Neurological Sciences at UNMC. The training program is inspired by the need to develop a critical workforce of specialists in neurodegenerative diseases focusing on Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and drug development. Students will obtain a depth of knowledge within pharmacokinetic studies in experimental therapeutics and the drug development process. This program will improve the students’ abilities to collaborate effectively on interdisciplinary teams with broad expertise to address challenges within target-based drug discovery concerning AD and related dementias.
Trainees will take defined courses in biochemistry, statistical analysis, pharmaceutical chemistry, neuroscience, responsible conduct of research, research design and scientific thinking, and the drug discovery process to provide a common skill set and language for interdisciplinary research. Workshops, seminars, and practical education will create essential skills for developing proficient personnel within the biomedical research community.
Up to six trainees will be supported per year and a request for applications will be posted each summer.
