Getting an updated coronavirus vaccine can be particularly challenging this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2025\/08\/27\/fda-approves-covid-vaccines\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"&nbsp;approved, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;approved<\/a>&nbsp;those shots for people who are 65 and older or have underlying conditions that elevate their risk of severe disease, narrowing the pool of Americans who have easy access to the shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2025\/06\/11\/rfk-cdc-vaccine-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"appointed critics, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appointed critics<\/a>&nbsp;of coronavirus vaccines to a key Centers for Disease Control and Prevention committee that recommends immunization (and may&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2025\/09\/08\/rfk-jr-new-vaccine-advisers\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"add more, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">add more<\/a>).
