{"id":10308,"date":"2025-09-17T09:56:59","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T14:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=10308"},"modified":"2025-09-17T09:57:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T14:57:01","slug":"tracking-county-level-measles-cases-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2025\/09\/17\/tracking-county-level-measles-cases-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Tracking County-Level Measles Cases in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama\/article-abstract\/2839096\">JAMA<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the introduction of the measles vaccine, more than 90% of US residents were infected with the measles virus before the age of 15 years, with the 3 million to 4 million annual cases of measles resulting in approximately 48\u202f000 hospitalizations.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama\/article-abstract\/2839096#jld250068r1\">1<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0After the licensure of the first measles vaccine in 1963, national efforts to terminate indigenous measles transmission in the US through increased vaccination coverage in school-aged children, alongside surveillance and outbreak control, led to the elimination of endemic measles in 2000.
