Those include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cen.acs.org\/pharmaceuticals\/diabetes-drugs-like-Ozempic-tackle\/102\/i33\">glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) drugs<\/a>, like tirzepatide; stellate ganglion block, a procedure involving the injection of anesthetic into the stellate ganglion nerves to improve circulation; and low-dose naltrexone, a version of a drug for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cen.acs.org\/articles\/86\/i23\/Formulations-Fighting-Abuse.html\">opioid and alcohol use disorders<\/a>&nbsp;that\u2019s often prescribed off-label for chronic pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RECOVER will also allocate additional funding for an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cen.acs.org\/biological-chemistry\/infectious-disease\/Lilly-test-baricitinib-against-COVID\/98\/i15\">ongoing trial of baricitinib, a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor<\/a>&nbsp;made by Eli Lilly and Company that\u2019s approved to treat alopecia and rheumatoid arthritis.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chemical &amp; Engineering News The National Institutes of Health\u2019s flagship long COVID initiative, RECOVER\u2014short for Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery\u2014has after a year of deliberation selected several drug candidates to test as treatments for the condition.
