Infection rates from drug-resistant \u201cnightmare bacteria\u201d rose almost 70% between 2019 and 2023, according to a new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acpjournals.org\/doi\/10.7326\/ANNALS-25-02404\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"report, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bacteria that are difficult to treat due to the so-called NDM gene primarily drove the increase, CDC researchers wrote in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.7326\/ANNALS-25-02404\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"an article published Monday, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an article published Monday<\/a>&nbsp;in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
