The study was published Oct. 10&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2839932?resultClick=3\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"in&nbsp;JAMA Network Open, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in&nbsp;<em>JAMA Network Open<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers began the project to understand the virus\u2019s lingering effects after the pandemic\u2019s official end in May 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe adverse impacts of the pandemic on the labor market had been previously explored, but it was unclear if these issues had continued through 2024,\u201d said Dr.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hpi.de\/en\/stern\/team\/julia-dennett\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Julia Dennet, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Julia Dennet<\/a>t, PhD, the paper\u2019s lead author and a postdoctoral associate in the YSPH Department of Epidemiology (Microbial Diseases) when the research was conducted. She is now at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team studied week-long work absences for health reasons and workers who were out of the labor force the month after such an absence.
