The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/cold-and-flu\/flu-season-us-vaccine-2025-cdc-influenza-shot-what-know-rcna238255\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"flu has started spreading earlier, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flu has started spreading earlier<\/a>&nbsp;than usual in some parts of the country, prompting concerns that cases could soon erupt as millions of Americans travel and gather for Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"anchor-406d07\">The warning signs come as a form of the virus, called H3N2 subclade K, has set off massive outbreaks in Canada and the U.K.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"anchor-6174ad\">Dr. Cameron Wolfe, an infectious disease specialist at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, said he\u2019s noted a sharp increase in flu cases over the past few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"anchor-54d002\">\u201cTypically, I might see one or two cases a week at this point,\u201d Wolfe said. \u201cAt the moment, we\u2019ve had two, three, four per day coming in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alicia Budd, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s domestic influenza surveillance team, said: \u201cWe certainly do expect we\u2019re going to see influenza activity increasing over the next several weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NBC News While flu levels are still low, a strain that has wreaked havoc in the U.K. and Canada is behind most cases so far in the U.S., mostly affecting kids.
