ISU research seeks answer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/money\/agriculture\/2025\/12\/10\/isu-research-bird-flu-dairy-animals\/87707056007\/\">Des Moines Register<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the current outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iowacapitaldispatch.com\/2024\/04\/17\/two-veterinarians-hundreds-of-miles-apart-solved-a-cow-sickness-whodunit\/\">detected in dairy cattle<\/a>\u00a0in March 2024, a group of researchers at Iowa State University started to ask questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf this virus can show up in cow milk, can it show up in other types of milk?\u201d Todd Bell, a professor of veterinary pathology at ISU, recalled asking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bell, Rahul Nelli, a research assistant professor of veterinary diagnostic and production animal medicine at ISU, and more than a dozen other researchers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.journalofdairyscience.org\/article\/S0022-0302(25)00971-3\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"examined, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">examined<\/a>\u00a0the mammary glands of commonly milked livestock to find out.
