It\u2019s called RSV, which stands for respiratory syncytial virus, and it sends\u00a0thousands of young children and elderly adults to the hospital every year.\u00a0 There isn\u2019t yet a\u00a0vaccine for RSV,\u00a0but that could soon change. RSV shots\u00a0from\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/news\/press-release\/press-release-detail\/pfizer-announces-positive-top-line-data-phase-3-trial-older\" target=\"_blank\">Pfizer\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-10-13\/gsk-says-vaccine-against-rsv-was-83-effective-in-key-study\" target=\"_blank\">GSK<\/a>\u00a0have shown promising results in big trials for elderly adults. In another trial, the Pfizer shot\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-11-01\/pfizer-pfe-says-maternal-rsv-vaccine-prevents-severe-lung-illness-in-babies#xj4y7vzkg\" target=\"_blank\">protected babies<\/a>\u00a0from severe RSV lung illness after it was given to pregnant women.
