They were tedious because I was tired of the pandemic, because we are&nbsp;<em>all<\/em>&nbsp;tired of the pandemic, because it is as familiar as rain and honestly just as dreary; I can hardly believe we once called the coronavirus&nbsp;<em>novel<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, I still tune out most long-COVID stories, though for different reasons. (Busman\u2019s holiday. I outsource the job to my family.)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2023\/02\/long-covid-cases-treatment-chronic-illness-emergency\/673032\/\">But millions of us suffer from long COVID<\/a>\u00a0(\u201cthe pandemic after the pandemic,\u201d as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/02\/08\/long-covid-challenges-economy-health-care\/\"><em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0editorial<\/a>\u00a0put it last week), so today I\u2019d like to discuss \u2026 etiquette. That\u2019s right: manners. I\u2019d like to offer a civilian\u2019s guide to navigating the sensitivities of those furious, frustrated, irritable millions\u2014and to better understanding them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact is, no one\u2014including doctors (especially doctors, dear God, these doctors)\u2014knows the right things to say to those of us who have long COVID, because no one seems to be thinking about this wretched condition in the right way. Nor does anyone seem to understand the unique psychological suffering associated with this condition. It\u2019s hideous\u2014arguably worse than some of the very worst of our physical symptoms.
