The site was quarantined and the 114 birds on the premises \u2014 mostly chickens \u2014 were destroyed to prevent the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minnesota\u2019s last previous detection was in a backyard flock in Redwood County of southwestern Minnesota in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were fortunate to get a reprieve from the virus during the past few months,\u201d Dr. Shauna Voss, the board\u2019s senior poultry veterinarian, said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019ve been anticipating the return of the virus and are recalling our partner resources back to the fight. We continue to call on anyone who owns birds to stand up their biosecurity, especially during these next couple months.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outbreak began last year, driving up egg and poultry prices, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/disease-outbreaks-iowa-business-health-bird-flu-2c9ca4b3d04f3c0269a1fee233daa3a6\">forcing the slaughter of more than 58 million birds<\/a>&nbsp;across the country to limit the spread of the virus. With the outbreak entering its second year, and the spring migratory season for wild birds looming, there is no end in sight. And there is little farmers can do&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/science-health-business-iowa-agriculture-f5a5c6fbf1d6b551413fb249086fdbec\">beyond the steps they have already taken<\/a>&nbsp;to try to keep the virus out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials say bird flu doesn\u2019t represent a significant threat to human health.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minnesota Local News Bird flu has returned to Minnesota less than four months after the deadly poultry disease was last detected in the state, the Board of Animal Health said Monday.
