{"id":3425,"date":"2023-05-02T08:04:30","date_gmt":"2023-05-02T13:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=3425"},"modified":"2023-05-02T08:04:33","modified_gmt":"2023-05-02T13:04:33","slug":"cdc-set-to-stop-tracking-community-levels-for-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2023\/05\/02\/cdc-set-to-stop-tracking-community-levels-for-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"CDC set to stop tracking community levels for Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/28\/health\/cdc-covid-community-levels\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the nation\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/30\/politics\/may-11-end-of-covid-and-public-health-emergencies\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public health emergency expires&nbsp;<\/a>on May 11, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will stop reporting its color-coded&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/your-health\/covid-by-county.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Covid-19 Community Levels<\/a>&nbsp;as a way to track the spread of the infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, the CDC will keep tabs on Covid-19<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>largely by tracking hospitalizations in some areas, according to a source familiar with the agency\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is much the same way the agency tracks other respiratory infections, such as the flu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hospitalizations are a lagging indicator: it generally takes a person a week to 10 days to be hospitalized with a Covid-19 infection.
