And so at that point, this is the very beginning of Homo sapiens. Our species was just emerging [at that time],&#8221; says the emeritus professor of medicine at France&#8217;s Aix Marseille University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Claverie and his team of researchers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/biorxiv\/early\/2022\/11\/10\/2022.11.10.515937.full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/biorxiv\/early\/2022\/11\/10\/2022.11.10.515937.full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published their findings<\/a>&nbsp;on seven ancient viruses found in Siberia&#8217;s permafrost. One was almost 50,000 years old and still infectious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says scientists don&#8217;t yet know exactly how ancient diseases could impact living species today \u2013 animals or\u00a0humans.
