{"id":3560,"date":"2023-05-16T14:52:01","date_gmt":"2023-05-16T19:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=3560"},"modified":"2023-05-16T14:52:04","modified_gmt":"2023-05-16T19:52:04","slug":"bird-flu-vaccine-authorized-to-save-california-condors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2023\/05\/16\/bird-flu-vaccine-authorized-to-save-california-condors\/","title":{"rendered":"Bird Flu Vaccine Authorized to Save California Condors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.precisionvaccinations.com\/bird-flu-vaccine-authorized-save-california-condors\">Precision Vaccinations<\/a> Monovalent, adjuvanted, cell-based inactivated influenza H5N1 vaccine approved for people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States Department of Agriculture&#8217;s Agricultural Research Service (APHIS) today announced&nbsp;they approved the emergency use of a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) vaccine candidate to prevent additional deaths of&nbsp;California Condors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This vaccine clinical trial&nbsp;will be carried out with the surrogate vultures in North Carolina beginning in May 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of May 12, 2023, twenty-one Condors have died related to HPAI infections in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2023, the USDA&#8217;s Agricultural Research Service&nbsp;began testing&nbsp;several candidate vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the vaccine has not previously been tested against this strain of the HAPI virus in&nbsp;California Condors, the first step is a test&nbsp;with&nbsp;North American vultures, a similar species.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The authorized vaccine is a killed, inactivated product conditionally licensed by APHIS&#8217; Center for Veterinary Biologics in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.precisionvaccinations.com\/bird-flu-vaccine-authorized-save-california-condors\">Continue reading<\/a><\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" style=\"display: none;\" title=\"SSdJBIC PTayA\"><\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Precision Vaccinations Monovalent, adjuvanted, cell-based inactivated influenza H5N1 vaccine approved for people.
