{"id":4661,"date":"2023-09-19T16:52:04","date_gmt":"2023-09-19T21:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=4661"},"modified":"2023-09-19T16:52:26","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T21:52:26","slug":"how-common-long-covid-is-may-depend-on-how-its-defined","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2023\/09\/19\/how-common-long-covid-is-may-depend-on-how-its-defined\/","title":{"rendered":"How common long COVID is may depend on how it&#8217;s defined"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cidrap.umn.edu\/covid-19\/how-common-long-covid-may-depend-how-its-defined\">CIDRAP<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In<em>&nbsp;Open Forum Infectious Disease<\/em>s,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/ofid\/advance-article\/doi\/10.1093\/ofid\/ofad471\/7276571\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dutch scientists report<\/a>&nbsp;that the definition of post-COVID condition (PCC, or long COVID) matters when estimating prevalence in a population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In people who had previously tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the prevalence of long-term symptoms varied from 26.9% to 64.1%, depending on which of six different definitions was used, while in those who tested negative, the prevalence varied from 11.4% to 32.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study was based on participant results from the Prevalence, Risk factors, and Impact Evaluation (PRIME) post-COVID-19 condition study conducted in November 2021.
