But if you or a family member suddenly gets sick, it can be tricky to know if you\u2019re dealing with one of the big three respiratory viruses going around now\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prevention.com\/novel-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19<\/a>, flu, and RSV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what are the symptoms of COVID-19, flu, and RSV and, more importantly, how can you tell them apart? Infectious disease doctors say it can be tricky. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How can you tell COVID, flu, and RSV apart?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is tough. \u201cAll three of the viruses have overlapping or identical symptoms,\u201d says&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/faculty\/3528\/amesh-adalja\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amesh Adalja, M.D.<\/a>, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. \u201cThere is no reliable way to distinguish the viruses clinically.\u201d Meaning, your doctor can\u2019t look at you and tell right away if you have COVID-19, the flu, or RSV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, there are some clues that you may be dealing with one virus over the other, says&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.buffalo.edu\/faculty\/profile.html?ubit=trusso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thomas Russo, M.D.<\/a>, professor and chief of infectious diseases at the University at Buffalo in New York.
