The logistical mess is behind them. But many of the choices aren\u2019t coming back.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retailers and suppliers across industries\u2014from groceries to health, beauty and furniture\u2014have said that it didn\u2019t pay to offer products for everyone, and consumers didn\u2019t care that much when they stopped.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, people would rather lose a portion of consumer demand as opposed to spending extra on too much variety,\u201d said&nbsp;Inna Kuznetsova, chief executive officer of ToolsGroup, a supply-chain planning and optimization company.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/market-data\/quotes\/M\">Macy\u2019s<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;president and CEO-elect,&nbsp;Tony Spring, told analysts in November that \u201cthe customer today does not want an endless aisle.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New items made up about 2% of products in stores in 2023 across categories such as beauty, footwear and toys, down from 5% of items in 2019, according to the market-research firm Circana.
