{"id":5713,"date":"2024-01-16T18:39:24","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T00:39:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=5713"},"modified":"2024-01-16T18:39:27","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T00:39:27","slug":"board-restricts-doctors-license-over-covid-misinfo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/01\/16\/board-restricts-doctors-license-over-covid-misinfo\/","title":{"rendered":"Board Restricts Doctor&#8217;s License Over COVID Misinfo"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpagetoday.com\/special-reports\/features\/108229\">MedPage Today<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Medical Commission in Washington state has restricted the license of Idaho pathologist Ryan Cole, MD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/24357659-wa-med-commn-restriction?responsive=1&amp;title=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">order dated January 4<\/a>  the commission concluded that Cole\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpagetoday.com\/special-reports\/features\/102702\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spread misinformation related to COVID-19<\/a> \u00a0and failed to meet the standard of care for a number of patients during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, the commission\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/idahocapitalsun.com\/2024\/01\/10\/washington-regulators-restrict-medical-license-of-idaho-doctor-who-spread-covid-19-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restricted Cole<\/a> from engaging in the practice of primary care medicine and from prescribing medications for patients, limiting his practice of medicine in the state to pathology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, the commission found that Cole &#8220;engaged in multiple acts of dishonesty when he made numerous demonstrably false and\/or misleading statements [in] presentations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 vaccines, the use of ivermectin to treat COVID-19, and the effectiveness of masks.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This &#8220;raises concerns that the respondent may use his professional position as a physician to harm members of the public,&#8221; the commission stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the commission found that Cole failed to meet the standard of care when it came to four patients treated via telemedicine in 2021.
