International travel, coupled with declining global vaccination rates, is probably behind this spate of cases, experts say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/2024-01-23-health-department-update-on-measles-outbreak-january-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0confirmed<\/a>\u00a0at least nine cases of measles over the past month after a person contracted the highly contagious virus outside the United States and exposed a parent and child at a children\u2019s hospital, according to health department spokesperson James Garrow. That exposure then led to a Philadelphia day care outbreak that includes at least five children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Health officials in Virginia are also warning people who recently traveled out of two D.C.-area airports \u2013 Dulles International Airport on January 3 and Reagan Washington National Airport on January 4 \u2013 of potential exposure to the virus after someone returning to the US from abroad traveled through Northern Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, a single case of measles has been confirmed in \u201can unvaccinated resident of the metro Atlanta area,\u201d the Georgia Department of Public Health<a href=\"https:\/\/dph.georgia.gov\/press-releases\/2024-01-18\/dph-confirms-measles-case-metro-atlanta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;announced<\/a>&nbsp;Thursday.<\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" style=\"display: none;\" title=\"HiTXP PdZgQ   KHicuVryrF \"><\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CNN Nearly a dozen cases of measles have been reported in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Georgia in recent weeks, according to local health departments.
