The idea is to be prepared so that when Disease X does strike \u2014 which is inevitable \u2014 scientists are prepared to rush out a vaccine rapidly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the WHO added Disease X to&nbsp;its&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/blueprint\/priority-diseases\/en\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blueprint<\/a>&nbsp;list of priority pathogens in 2018. The Blueprint is the list of diseases for which the WHO urgently needed accelerated research and development. The list will be updated again in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/the-economist-explains\/2018\/03\/23\/what-is-disease-x\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the WHO<\/a>, &#8220;Disease X represents the knowledge that a serious international epidemic could be caused by a pathogen currently unknown to cause human disease.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Disease X is unknown, what are the other diseases the WHO and other disease experts consider most likely to lead to the next pandemic?
