{"id":5893,"date":"2024-02-14T07:44:23","date_gmt":"2024-02-14T13:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=5893"},"modified":"2024-02-14T07:44:28","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T13:44:28","slug":"see-where-measles-cases-are-being-reported-across-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/02\/14\/see-where-measles-cases-are-being-reported-across-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"See where measles cases are being reported across the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/health\/2024\/02\/07\/measles-cases-us-states-map\/72507771007\/\">USA Today<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As cold and flu season drags on, multiple states across the U.S. are now also reporting cases of measles, a highly contagious virus that primarily affects children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/measles\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20374857\">preventable illness<\/a>&nbsp;was once common but was eradicated in the U.S. thanks to the widespread use of vaccines, with most current cases originating outside of the country and occurring in unvaccinated people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/emergency.cdc.gov\/newsletters\/coca\/2024\/012524.html\">issued an emergency warning<\/a>\u00a0on Jan. 25, telling the public to remain vigilant after 23 cases were confirmed in several different states between December 1, 2023, and January 23, 2024.
