{"id":6194,"date":"2024-03-27T07:12:26","date_gmt":"2024-03-27T12:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=6194"},"modified":"2024-03-27T07:12:30","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T12:12:30","slug":"mpox-cases-on-the-rise-in-virginia-officials-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/03\/27\/mpox-cases-on-the-rise-in-virginia-officials-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Mpox cases on the rise in Virginia, officials say"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/virginia\/2024\/03\/with-goal-of-limiting-spread-va-warns-of-rise-in-mpox-cases\/\">WTOP News<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoping to increase awareness and curb the spread of mpox, Virginia health officials are warning about a rise in cases since the start of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far this year, the state has reported 12 cases, the same number it reported in all of 2023, according to Brandy Darby, director of the Virginia Department of Health\u2019s division of surveillance and investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s cases have been spread out across the state, contrasting with those reported last year, many of which were focused around Northern Virginia, Darby said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the high case counts reported in 2022, when Virginia reported over 40 cases per week, cases \u201creally trailed off,\u201d Darby said.
