{"id":6409,"date":"2024-04-24T07:38:20","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T12:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=6409"},"modified":"2024-04-24T07:38:24","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T12:38:24","slug":"is-there-a-vaccine-for-h5n1-influenza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/04\/24\/is-there-a-vaccine-for-h5n1-influenza\/","title":{"rendered":"Is There a Vaccine for H5N1 Influenza?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpagetoday.com\/special-reports\/features\/109784\">MedPageToday<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the heels of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpagetoday.com\/infectiousdisease\/generalinfectiousdisease\/109670\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">multi-state outbreak<\/a> of highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) in dairy cows, experts told\u00a0<em>MedPage Today<\/em>\u00a0that a trio of H5N1 vaccines for humans has already been developed and approved in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there hasn&#8217;t been an outbreak among people to put them to the test, human-to-human transmission would &#8220;drive the need&#8221; for H5N1 vaccines, Aaron Glatt, MD, of Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside, New York and a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, told&nbsp;<em>MedPage Today<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If infections among humans who work with animals become more common, this could be a subgroup of people to vaccinate, he added.
