{"id":6745,"date":"2024-06-04T21:28:16","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T02:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=6745"},"modified":"2024-06-04T21:28:20","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T02:28:20","slug":"u-s-to-make-millions-of-bird-flu-vaccine-doses-this-summer-as-cases-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/06\/04\/u-s-to-make-millions-of-bird-flu-vaccine-doses-this-summer-as-cases-grow\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. to make millions of bird flu vaccine doses this summer, as cases grow"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/bird-flu-vaccine-doses-this-summer-cases\/\">CBS News<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 4.8 million doses of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/bird-flu-vaccine-chicken-eggs-researching-alternatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flu vaccine<\/a>&nbsp;are now being prepared for use in response to the growing U.S. outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza, or H5N1, officials say.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order for the doses to be filled into vials comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating a growing number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/human-case-of-bird-flu-michigan-dairy-cow-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">human cases<\/a>\u00a0linked to the unprecedented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aphis.usda.gov\/livestock-poultry-disease\/avian\/avian-influenza\/hpai-detections\/livestock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outbreak<\/a>\u00a0of the virus in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/pasteurization-kills-bird-flu-in-milk-early-fda-results-find\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dairy cattle<\/a>\u00a0this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The supplies will be pulled from a &#8220;pre-pandemic&#8221; stockpile funded by the federal Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response.
