Authorities have called on states to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/bird-flu-raw-milk-fda-crackdown-wyoming-iowa-minnesota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">curb raw milk sales<\/a>\u00a0that could spread the virus, and have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/bird-flu-raw-milk-unpasteurized-dairy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned consumers against drinking raw milk<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>&nbsp;said it is tracking the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/health\/2024\/06\/08\/new-covid-variant-kp-3\/74028807007\/\">new COVID variant KP.3<\/a>&nbsp;as data shows its dominance across the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCDC is tracking SARS-CoV-2 variant KP.3. For the two-week period ending on June 8, 2024, CDC predicts that KP.3 is growing and will become the most common SARS-CoV-2 lineage nationally,\u201d CDC Spokesperson, Rosa Norman, said in a statement to USA TODAY. \u201c(Our agency) is working to better understand its potential impact on public health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the two-week period starting on May 26 and ending on June 8, the government agency data shows that KP.3 accounts for 25% of COVID cases in the U.S. and is now the dominant variant. This knocks down previous frontrunner, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/health\/2023\/12\/23\/covid-symptoms-jn-1-variant\/72020270007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JN.1 variant<\/a>, which spread globally last winter.
