And while the virus continues to evolve, it\u2019s doing so in more predictable ways. Specifically, the expected&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/covid-summer-wave-002454161.html\">summer uptick in infections<\/a>&nbsp;has arrived: The number of COVID cases is &#8220;likely&#8221; on the rise in at least 39 states and isn&#8217;t dropping anywhere in the United States, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/forecast-outbreak-analytics\/about\/rt-estimates.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data<\/a>&nbsp;from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are new variants in town, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/fda-tells-covid-19-vaccine-224835421.html\">reformulated vaccine<\/a>&nbsp;on the horizon and fresh&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/theres-drug-help-prevent-covid-164029303.html\">preventive treatments<\/a>&nbsp;to help protect the most vulnerable people from getting severely ill from COVID. At-risk groups are now the main focus of the U.S. strategy against COVID \u2014 instead of the sweeping, one-size-fits-all approach taken in the early days of the pandemic \u2014 which means there may be less for an average, healthy person to do.
