Covid can lead to the loss of smell and taste, but another sense may also be at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/eclinm\/article\/PIIS2589-5370(24)00338-9\/fulltext?s=09\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent study<\/a>\u00a0published in the Lancet\u2019s eClinicalMedicine journal reported that a positive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/coronavirus\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">coronavirus<\/a>\u00a0diagnosis was associated with a more than threefold increase in risk for subsequent hearing loss in young adults. The effects of covid can linger and affect nearly every organ system,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41579-022-00846-2.pdf#page=3.48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increasing the risk<\/a>&nbsp;for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cognitive impairment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new research may be an \u201calert\u201d that \u201ccovid-19 may be an independent risk factor for hearing loss and sudden sensorineural hearing loss among young adults,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/scientific-contributions\/Hye-Jun-Kim-2220742896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hye Jun Kim<\/a>, a biomedical sciences PhD candidate at Seoul National University and an author of the study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wellness\/2024\/08\/29\/covid-hearing-loss-deafness-risk-study\/\">Continue reading<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington Post The incidences of hearing loss and sudden deafness were higher for people who had covid than those who did not, a new study reports.
