The U.S. is experiencing more than four times as many&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/kids-health\/whooping-cough-vaccine-less-effective-because-bacteria-mutating-study-suggests-n982816\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whooping cough<\/a>&nbsp;cases compared with last year \u2014 a spike that some experts attribute to post-pandemic vaccine fatigue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the increase in vaccine hesitancy that has been going on since the Covid-19 pandemic, we\u2019re seeing outbreaks occurring in kids who are not vaccinated,\u201d said Dr. Tina Tan, president-elect of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Babies are given the DTaP vaccine, which helps protect against three diseases:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/kids-health\/unvaccinated-boy-almost-died-tetanus-hospital-bill-was-more-800-n981256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus<\/a>.
