{"id":7701,"date":"2024-09-25T09:20:42","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T14:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=7701"},"modified":"2024-09-25T09:20:45","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T14:20:45","slug":"minnesota-measles-outbreak-sickens-51","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/09\/25\/minnesota-measles-outbreak-sickens-51\/","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota: Measles outbreak sickens 51"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/minnesotareformer.com\/2024\/09\/23\/the-topline-measles-outbreak-sickens-dozens\/\">Minnesota News<\/a> At least 51 people have been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.state.mn.us\/diseases\/measles\/update.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sickened by measles in Minnesota since May<\/a>, with nearly one quarter of them ending up hospitalized, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly all the cases are in Hennepin County, and MPR News reports that most are among&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2024\/09\/19\/vaccine-hesitancy-concerns-physicians-amid-minnesota-measles-outbreak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unvaccinated children in the Somali community<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall childhood vaccination rates in the state are down since the pandemic, according to the Department of Health, with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.state.mn.us\/people\/immunize\/stats\/school\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0fewer than 90% of kindergartners<\/a>\u00a0up-to-date on their polio, MMR, DTaP, and varicella (chickenpox) shots.
