A new vaccine provides hope for treating and even preventing the highly contagious and difficult-to-treat\u00a0<em>Clostridioides difficile<\/em>\u00a0infection, more commonly known as\u00a0<em>C. difficile<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>C. diff.<\/em>\u00a0In animal models, this first mRNA-LNP\u00a0<em>C. difficile<\/em>\u00a0vaccine was found to protect against\u00a0<em>C. difficile<\/em>\u00a0first-time infections and relapsing infections by inducing a robust immune response, promote clearance of existing\u00a0<em>C. diff<\/em>\u00a0bacteria from the gut, and even overcome deficits in host immunity to protect animals after infection, according to researchers at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.upenn.edu\/\">Perelman School of Medicine<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.upenn.edu\/\">University of Pennsylvania<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chop.edu\/\">Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia<\/a>.
