{"id":7945,"date":"2024-10-22T19:19:30","date_gmt":"2024-10-23T00:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=7945"},"modified":"2024-10-22T19:19:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-23T00:19:33","slug":"vaccine-hesitancy-covid-19-to-influenza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2024\/10\/22\/vaccine-hesitancy-covid-19-to-influenza\/","title":{"rendered":"Vaccine Hesitancy: COVID-19 to Influenza"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajmc.com\/view\/vaccine-hesitancy-covid-19-to-influenza\">AJMC<\/a> Back in 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) deemed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajmc.com\/compendium\/vaccines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vaccine hesitancy<\/a>\u2014the outright refusal or reluctance to get vaccinated regardless of the availability of vaccines\u2014as a top-10 threat to global health.<sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0At the time, WHO estimated that vaccinations prevented up to 3 million deaths each year; furthermore, an additional 1.5 million deaths could be prevented if global vaccine awareness, coverage, and efforts were enhanced. The topic of vaccine hesitancy has been studied dating back to the 1960s; however, in the wake of COVID-19 vaccination campaigns and residual anxiety, these research endeavors have more than tripled.
