This risk was observed in individuals with and without pre-existing heart conditions and confirms earlier research linking COVID-19 infection to a higher chance of cardiovascular events. However, this study is the first to indicate that the heightened risk may last as long as three years, especially for those infected during the first wave of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study, published in the journal\u00a0<em>Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology<\/em>, revealed that individuals who had COVID-19 early in the pandemic were twice as likely to experience cardiovascular events compared to those with no history of infection.
