But the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/bird-flu-california-raw-milk-dairy-b7ac9c95db99d367b2932f0de16e5821\">detection of bird flu virus<\/a>&nbsp;in unpasteurized milk sold in California stores underscores what health experts say are the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/bird-flu-raw-milk-h5n1-6398d2eda26eb41797ee2700cf9d036b\">known and potential risks<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have to assume that raw milk, unpasteurized milk, has potential infectious agents that can cause serious illness in the people who drink it,\u201d said Michael Osterholm, a University of Minnesota infectious disease researcher who has investigated foodborne illness outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raw Farm LLC, of Fresno, California, voluntarily recalled one lot of \u201ccream top\u201d whole raw milk after Santa Clara County health officials found the bird flu virus in a sample last week.
