On&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2020\/01\/04\/mystery-pneumonia-outbreak-china\/\">Jan. 4, 2020<\/a>, we published the first of what would become a torrent of articles on the disease now known as Covid-19.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The intervening years have both sped and crawled by, too busy at times to take stock of all that has changed, too plodding to believe we have arrived at this anniversary already. (The first case of Covid in the U.S., in a person who had traveled to Wuhan, was not confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention until\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/museum\/timeline\/covid19.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jan. 20, 2020<\/a>.) What do we have to show for the time that has passed? Not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a saying&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freakonomics.com\/2009\/08\/quotes-uncovered-who-said-no-crisis-should-go-to-waste\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attributed to all sorts of people<\/a>&nbsp;that one shouldn\u2019t waste a good crisis.
