It is a stark reminder of the interconnectedness of global health. Clade I mpox, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/14-08-2024-who-director-general-declares-mpox-outbreak-a-public-health-emergency-of-international-concern\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public health emergency of international concern <\/a>\u00a0concentrated in Central and Eastern Africa, has already caused more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/11\/16\/health\/mpox-california.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">57,000 suspected cases <\/a>\u00a0and more than 1,200 deaths in 2024 alone.
