Is there a better way?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/environment\/story\/2025-02-26\/poultry-culling-hasnt-stopped-h5n1-bird-flu\">Los Angeles Times<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/bird-flu\/situation-summary\/current-bird-flu-situation-in-poultry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">made its first appearance<\/a>\u00a0at a U.S. poultry farm in February 2022,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aphis.usda.gov\/livestock-poultry-disease\/avian\/avian-influenza\/hpai-detections\/commercial-backyard-flocks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roughly 29,000 turkeys<\/a>\u00a0at an Indiana facility were sacrificed in an attempt to avert a larger outbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn\u2019t work. Three years later, highly pathogenic avian influenza has spread to all 50 states. The number of commercial birds that have died or been killed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/bird-flu\/situation-summary\/data-map-commercial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exceeds 166 million<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-01-06\/nearly-9-a-dozen-why-egg-prices-are-skyrocketing-and-for-how-long\">the price of eggs<\/a>\u00a0is at an all-time high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poultry producers, infectious disease experts and government officials now concede that H5N1 is likely here to stay.
