Not only are State Health Officials trying to battle the virus, but they\u2019re also trying to battle the mountain of misinformation that\u2019s being spread on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the challenge that we are up against. For the poultry producers across our state, this is a very true reality,\u201d says Dr. Kyle Shipman, State Veterinarian with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/boah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Indiana State Board of Animal Health<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explains the reasons behind the current protocol for depopulating entire flocks of birds whenever there\u2019s a positive test for the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUltimately that\u2019s two-fold\u2014to prevent disease spread, as well as to ensure that the animals aren\u2019t suffering from this virus,\u201d says Shipman. \u201cThis virus kills these birds rapidly, and it\u2019s not a good death.
