County. \u2018We really have to get ahead of this\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-05-05\/hepatitis-a-outbreak-declared-in-la-county\">Los Angeles Times<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hepatitis A is a contagious virus that can be contracted by ingesting contaminated food and drink.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting vaccinated and regularly washing your hands are among the ways residents can better protect themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles County has declared a communitywide outbreak of hepatitis A, a highly contagious viral disease that can lead to lasting liver damage or even death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although cases of hepatitis A are nothing new in the region, health officials are expressing alarm at the prevalence of the disease and who is becoming infected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year\u2019s total of 136 confirmed cases was the highest in the county in at least a decade, officials say, and more than double the number seen in 2023.
