Since December 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s (USDA) National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) had confirmed more than 130 feline cases of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aphis.usda.gov\/livestock-poultry-disease\/avian\/avian-influenza\/hpai-detections\/mammals\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) type A H5N1, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) type A H5N1<\/a>\u00a0infection across the country, from California to New Jersey. They range from barn and feral cats to pet cats, including those kept strictly indoors, to big cats in zoos and the wild.
