North Korea has long&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/11\/world\/asia\/north-korea-covid.html\">claimed<\/a>&nbsp;that it defeated the Covid-19 pandemic without vaccines, losing only 74 lives in what it called \u201ca miracle unprecedented in the world\u2019s public health history.\u201d But a report released on Tuesday said the \u200bgovernment \u200blied and left many of its people to die without proper health care or access to outside help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the pandemic raged, the already \u200bwoeful economic and public health conditions of ordinary North Koreans \u200brapidly worsened as a result of their government\u2019s efforts, especially in the first two years, to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/31\/world\/asia\/north-korea-coronavirus.html\">deny that the virus was spreading<\/a>, according to a report \u200bcompiled by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies and the George W. Bush Institute\u200b.
