{"id":9953,"date":"2025-07-23T15:10:25","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T20:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/?p=9953"},"modified":"2025-07-23T15:10:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T20:10:27","slug":"west-africas-clade-ii-mpox-outbreak-expands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/healthsecurity\/transmission\/2025\/07\/23\/west-africas-clade-ii-mpox-outbreak-expands\/","title":{"rendered":"West Africa&#8217;s Clade II Mpox Outbreak Expands"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vax-before-travel.com\/2025\/07\/23\/west-africas-clade-ii-mpox-outbreak-expands\">Vax Before Travel<\/a> The WHO Director-General recently determined that the upsurge of mpox&nbsp;cases in Africa continues to meet the criteria of a public health emergency of international concern and issued temporary recommendations to States Parties as of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/10-07-2025-fourth-meeting-of-the-international-health-regulations-(2005)-emergency-committee-regarding-the-upsurge-of-mpox-2024\">July 10,&nbsp;2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first human case of mpox was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has subsequently spread to other central and western African countries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), outbreaks of clade II mpox have been reported in Liberia and Sierra Leone, where mpox is endemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CDC&#8217;s updated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwnc.cdc.gov\/travel\/notices\/level2\/mpox-sierra-leone-liberia\">Level 2<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; Practice Enhanced Precautions, Travel Health Advisory states that, unlike the ongoing global clade II mpox outbreak, which&nbsp;began in May 2022, these&nbsp;outbreaks have&nbsp;affected males and females approximately equally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vax Before Travel The WHO Director-General recently determined that the upsurge of mpox&nbsp;cases in Africa continues to meet the criteria of a public health emergency of international concern and issued temporary recommendations to States Parties as of&nbsp;July 10,&nbsp;2025.
